Inside Engagement Season: How Robbins Brothers Fine Jewelers Is Shaping Modern Love, Meaningful Design, and Community Connection

For over a century, Robbins Brothers Fine Jewelers has been a trusted neighborhood jeweler, known not just for fine craftsmanship but for guiding couples through some of life’s most meaningful moments. This engagement season, the brand is seeing a strong pull toward heirloom-inspired designs, larger diamonds, art-deco, yellow gold, and subtle modern updates that feel both timeless and personal. Just as important, the engagement journey itself has evolved — with more couples designing rings together, prioritizing collaboration, shared values, and informed choices over tradition for tradition’s sake.

Connection, for Robbins Brothers, is as much about the people as it is about jewelry. With the opening of its new flagship prototype store in Pasadena (located at 587 E Colorado Blvd), alongside its 13 other stores across the country, Robbins Brothers is deepening its role as a community gathering space, designed to foster creativity, restoration, and local partnerships. From reimagining sentimental heirlooms to launching community-focused initiatives, the brand continues to prove that love doesn’t begin or end at the jewelry counter. As engagement season unfolds, Robbins Brothers remains focused on what has always mattered most: celebrating stories, honoring individuality, and building lasting connections — both with couples and the communities they call home.

Robbins Brothers has been a trusted name in fine jewelry for generations. What core values have allowed the brand to stay relevant and beloved through so many eras of love, style, and celebration?

At our core, we’ve always been a neighborhood jeweler. We do not simply sell jewelry; We celebrate stories. Every guest who walks through our doors presents an opportunity to connect, listen, and be part of a moment that’s bigger than a transaction. We offer hands-on support, expert guidance, and the trusted feel of a lifelong friend rooted in more than a century of experience. What sets us apart is the warmth, patience, and belief that every guest deserves our full attention. Whether someone is buying their first ring or celebrating fifty years together, we guide rather than pressure.

Engagement season is officially here. What trends are dominating this year that we haven’t seen before, and what trends are making a comeback?

Solitaire rings continue to evolve, with subtle, unexpected elements that feel both fresh and timeless. Yellow gold has made a strong comeback, along with east-west settings that offer a modern silhouette. Bezel settings are also trending, driven in part by celebrity influence. Fancy cut diamonds continue to dominate, particularly cushions, ovals, pears, emeralds, and marquises.

Overall, heirloom-inspired styles are resonating more than ever. Couples are gravitating toward pieces that feel meaningful, symbolic, and connected to tradition. Vintage design elements offer a sense of history that feels deeply personal.

Have you noticed any shifts in how couples approach the engagement journey? Are you seeing an increase in couples designing rings together rather than keeping it a surprise?

There has been a clear shift toward collaboration. Many couples now shop for the ring together, often long before any proposal plans are finalized. They want to share the experience, explore options side by side, and make design decisions as a team. Even when the proposal remains a surprise, many partners participate in the early stages of the process to ensure the ring reflects their shared style and values.

With lab-grown diamonds becoming more mainstream, how do you guide couples who are unsure which path, lab-grown or natural, is right for them?

We start by getting to know the couple, their style preferences, budget, and what matters most to them in a diamond. From there, we present clear options so they can make an informed, confident decision. Some prioritize origin, rarity, or long-term value. Others appreciate the size and affordability that lab-grown diamonds offer. Our role is to educate, support, and help each couple choose the diamond that aligns with their vision and feels right for them.

Many shoppers now treat jewelry as a form of self-expression. How is Robbins Brothers embracing this shift in the cultural relationship to jewelry?

We have made it a priority to expand and focus on our fine jewelry offering because we know jewelry has become a powerful way for people to communicate identity, emotion, and personal narrative. Our stores are designed to encourage exploration and play, with no rules or expectations. Guests can try on pieces freely, mix metals, stack styles, and build a look that feels uniquely theirs. We embrace the idea that jewelry is not just something you wear but something that reflects who you are.

What types of pieces are people gravitating toward for those me-moment splurges?

Layering is a major focus right now. Shoppers are mixing metals and styles across rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets to create personal stacks that feel meaningful, exploratory, and modern. People are building collections that can grow with them and reflect their mood and look day after day and season after season.

When it comes to heirloom restoration or redesign, what kinds of transformations are people requesting most often?

Guests often come to us to breathe new life into pieces that hold deep sentimental value. Common requests include prong rebuilding, stone replacement, resizing, and reimagining older pieces to fit changing design sensibilities. Many choose to combine multiple inherited pieces into a single new design. The goal is always the same: honoring the original sentiment while creating something that feels wearable and personal for today.

Jewelry is emotional, often tied to love, memory, or heritage. How does the brand work to create an environment where every customer, regardless of background, feels welcomed and celebrated?

We start by meeting every guest with genuine curiosity and respect. Our role is to understand what brings them in, what they hope to find, and what story they want to tell. We value inclusivity across every part of the experience. That means accessible pricing, personal guidance, and a warm environment where no one feels rushed, unwelcome, or judged. Every person, couple, and relationship deserves to feel represented, understood, and celebrated in our stores. Our commitment is to create a space where all guests can explore freely and choose pieces that reflect who they are and what matters most to them.

The brand has mentioned plans for initiatives tied to random acts of kindness. What inspired that approach, and how do you see it impacting the community?

Our brand has always been rooted in connection, gratitude, and the belief that small gestures can have a lasting impact. The idea behind random acts of kindness is simple. Love does not begin or end with a purchase. It shows up in everyday moments. Our goal is to be a source of sparkle and levity in the communities we serve, whether through surprise giveaways, acts of service, or supporting local organizations. These initiatives allow us to extend the spirit of celebration beyond the four walls of our stores and into the neighborhoods we are proud to be part of.

You recently opened a new flagship in Pasadena, which also serves as a hub for community activations. How does that space reflect the brand’s commitment to bringing people together?

The Pasadena showroom was designed as more than a store. It is a gathering space. With an emphasis on collaboration and community, Pasadena will host pop-ups and partnerships with local businesses and creators. For a city that’s still healing from recent fires, creating a space where people can come together, support one another, and rebuild a sense of connection is essential. Heirloom restoration and customization are just a few of the ways we hope to help families recover sentimental pieces that may have been damaged or lost. The store reflects our foundation as a neighborhood jeweler, and that community will always be at the heart of what we do.
