My Sundaze With Maggie Jackson

by | Aug 13, 2023

Name
Maggie Jackson

Occupation
TV Host
Short Bio
I’m a freelance TV host, journalist and content creator who’s been featured on KTLA Morning News, KCAL (CBS LA) Morning News and a multitude of other lifestyle morning news shows across the country. A native Texan, I got my start in Los Angeles while interning for a semester of college at KTLA’s entertainment news department. During that time, I fell in love with the city, local media and my future husband, so I moved here as fast as I could!
In each day that we are alive. Can you tell us what are the three things you are grateful for?
1. My family, especially my parents, my husband and my two babies. I’ve been extremely fortunate to have a loving, supportive family throughout my entire life. We’ve been through a lot of tough times, but we’ve always held each other up. I know not everyone has that, so I’m unbelievably grateful for them. 2. My home. We live in a quiet neighborhood in the hills with beautiful views where I can take peaceful walks. We have the nicest neighbors you’ll ever meet. 3. The gift of writing. It’s been my therapy since I was a little girl when I started keeping a journal at 7 years old. I’d be lost without my writing.
Favorite type of music?
It’s so hard to pick one type! I love to listen to all kinds of great music throughout the day depending on my mood. I’ll start the morning listening to Bossa Nova over breakfast, get dressed to Whitney Houston, drive the kids to school to Shania Twain, workout to Beyonce, write to Tchaikovsky, have an evening cocktail to Kings of Leon, and wind down the night to Rufus Du Sol.
Who would you switch lives with for one day if you could
Taylor Swift. I think it would be so fun to see what a day in her popstar life would be like, which is totally different from my current life! I’d love to get on stage in all her elaborate concert costumes and belt out her best loved songs!
Name the biggest pet peeve you have. It can be anything and it’s no holds-barred.
Excuses. It drives me nuts hearing everyone’s excuses on why they haven’t or can’t _____ (fill in the blank). If you really want something, you can do it. Work ethic is everything.
How do you psyche yourself up for the day ahead?
COFFEE! And, I keep a morning journal where I write what I’m grateful for, who I’m sending love to, affirmations for the day, and my top three to-do’s. That really helps me set my intentions and stay focused for the day. Oh, and did I say coffee?! I can’t get moving without my morning cup.
Go-to products in your bag that you can’t live without
1. Supergoop! Glowscreen SPF 40 – I don’t leave the house without wearing sunscreen, and this is my favorite for my face that give me a little tanned glow. 2. ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara – I feel like I never look fully awake without a swipe of mascara and I love this clean brand. 3. Tretinoin – After having two babies, my skin has gone through a rollercoaster of acne, melasma and new fine lines, and this product has truly saved my skin! 4. OneKind Golden State Nourishing Face Oil – This face oil is a recent addiction of mine, leaving my skin hydrated and glowing. It’s one of the few oils that doesn’t break me out, and it also smells good! I’ve really noticed a dewey boost in my skin ever since I started using it a couple months ago!
How do you use Sundays to de-stress from work
Sundays are our slow family days which are nourishing for my soul. I usually start the day with a long, therapeutic run. Then, I review our family’s calendar for the week and do meal planning before heading to the grocery store. In the afternoon, our family spends time together in the backyard, either playing with the kids or lounging by the pool. I’m the family cook during the week, so my husband will usually grill on Sundays, and we have a big family feast at the end of the day.

How would you describe yourself?
Friendly, ambitious, creative, optimistic and empathetic.

What is your biggest weakness and strength
My biggest weakness and strength are the same thing: perfectionism. Being a perfectionist works great for my career where attention to detail is so important. I’m able to execute strong work that my colleagues and I are really proud to see on TV. In my other areas of life, however, my perfectionism can drive myself and those closest to me nuts. I get very particular (some might say “difficult”) when situations aren’t meeting my expectations.
What’s your hidden and weird talent that no-one, not even your partner knows about
I can blow mini spit bubbles off my tongue. I’m like a natural little bubble machine. It sounds gross, but it was a huge hit in grade school.
What is a trend that you wish to obliterate forever
Low rise jeans. Unless you’re a kid, there’s maybe .01% of the population that can make low rise jeans look attractive, in my opinion. I hope there’s always a place for my high rise jeans!
The best compliment you ever got from anyone
Anytime that someone compliments me on my kindness or intelligence, I feel so good. I think as a culture, we’ve been conditioned to prioritize complimenting women’s appearance, as if that’s what matters most to her and the world. Of course, I love when someone tells me I look nice, but I really beam with pride when people compliment my heart and mind.
