Los Angeles has long been known as the world’s capital of entertainment, but over the past decade SoCal has quietly become something else entirely: one of the nation’s leading centers for wellness innovation.
From luxury spas and holistic healing practices to cutting-edge recovery technology, preventative medicine, and longevity research, the region continues to shape how Americans think about living healthier, longer lives.
It’s fitting, then, that one of the country’s fastest-growing wellness observances was born here.
Founded by Tustin-based entrepreneur Lisa Michaelis in 2018, National Wellness Month was created to inspire people to make self-care part of their everyday lives—not as an occasional indulgence, but as a consistent practice supporting physical, mental, and emotional well-being. What began as a simple awareness campaign has grown into a nationally recognized movement celebrated every August by individuals, wellness professionals, hospitality leaders, and businesses across the country.

This week, that movement returns to Los Angeles as Live Love Spa hosts its annual National Wellness Month Celebration at Hudson Loft in Downtown LA.
For two days, more than 350 attendees—including executives from some of the world’s leading hospitality and wellness brands—will gather alongside media, creators, educators, and more than 60 wellness companies to explore the innovations shaping the industry’s future.
Yet beyond the product launches and networking opportunities lies a larger story.
Americans are increasingly redefining what wellness means.
Rather than focusing solely on beauty or relaxation, today’s consumers are embracing prevention, resilience, recovery, and longevity as lifelong investments. Burnout, stress, and mental fatigue have accelerated demand for practical tools that help people feel better every day.

To better understand these shifting priorities, Live Love Spa recently surveyed thousands of professionals across the wellness and spa industries.
The results suggest that longevity has become wellness’s new north star.
More than four out of five respondents identified healthy aging as the industry’s top growth trend, surpassing categories such as skincare, fitness, and nutrition. Mental well-being, women’s health, sleep optimization, preventative diagnostics, wellness travel, and at-home technologies also emerged as major priorities.
The survey reflects broader changes occurring throughout society.
Baby Boomers are redefining aging through active lifestyles, travel, sports, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning. Younger generations are investing earlier in preventative health. Consumers increasingly seek products that combine science, convenience, and sustainability while fitting into everyday routines.
For Michaelis, these aren’t simply industry trends—they represent a cultural shift.

“When wellness becomes part of your daily routine, you’re building resilience before you need it,” she says. “People are realizing they don’t have to wait until they’re burned out to start taking care of themselves.”
Los Angeles has become the ideal place for those conversations to flourish.
The city naturally brings together hospitality, healthcare, fitness, beauty, technology, nutrition, and entrepreneurship in ways few other markets can. Innovations introduced here often influence national conversations around consumer health and lifestyle.
Live Love Spa has embraced that collaborative spirit by creating immersive experiences where decision-makers can test products, exchange ideas, and discover new approaches to wellness together rather than through traditional trade show presentations.
This year’s event features expert education, recovery technology demonstrations, skincare innovations, experiential treatments, wellness trend forecasting, and community-building opportunities that showcase the industry’s evolution.
Perhaps most importantly, National Wellness Month reminds us that wellness isn’t reserved for luxury resorts or exclusive retreats. It can begin with a morning walk, better sleep habits, a few moments of mindfulness, healthier nutrition, stronger community connections, or simply making time to pause during a busy day.
