Kearran Giovanni has cultivated a thriving career with passion, talent, and courage. From the Broadway stage to starring in popular TV shows like Major Crimes, Walker, and Black Lightning, Giovanni is now gearing up for the release of her first film, Homestead, a gripping post-apocalyptic drama that showcases her impressive range as an actress.
Giovanni first discovered her love for acting on Broadway. “I took a leap of faith and auditioned for a musical theater school,” she recalls. “I had really supportive parents. There’s an openness with actors that is hard to find with any other job. I was really lucky. I thought I’d just do it until it didn’t work out. Then I got ‘The Lion King,’ and the rest is history. I fell in love with it. Being on stage is still my first love.”
It was on the New York City stage that Giovanni’s talent first shone, but her journey quickly expanded to television, where she starred in popular series like Major Crimes, Walker, and Black Lightning. Now, she makes her big screen debut in the film Homestead.
In Homestead, Kearran Giovanni takes on the role of Tara Eriksson, a fierce wife, mother, and ex-military woman fighting to protect her family in the wake of a nuclear disaster. “The world gets turned upside down, so we travel to this beautiful homestead to start humanity over,” Giovanni explains. “Tara is a fighter. She’s good with a gun, level-headed, athletic, and, most importantly, she’s a mama bear. She’s also a wife and mom to three children, one of whom was adopted.”
Kearran Giovanni enjoyed exploring the complexities of her character. “I don’t think strength always has to come with force,” she says. “Strength can come from knowing your role, being supportive when your husband needs you, or giving tough love to your children without being harsh. I really enjoyed finding that balance.”
