Why ‘Posting More’ Isn’t The Answer (What Actually Drives Organic Growth)

by | Aug 2, 2025

We’re excited to share expert insights from Daniel Iles, Founder of Viral Coach, whose work behind the scenes of today’s most viral short-form content has helped brands generate massive growth and visibility. In this must-read piece, Daniel breaks down a common misconception in social media strategy—that posting more always leads to more growth—and reveals what actually drives organic reach in 2025 and beyond.

Whether you’re a brand struggling to gain traction or a content creator aiming for scale, Daniel shares actionable advice on the power of quality, tone, and consistency. If you’re ready to make your content work smarter (not harder), this article is your roadmap.

Social media opens the door for every business to connect with customers and build relationships organically. The downside is that, since the door is open to everyone, competition is fierce.

Many brands adopt the “fire hose” approach to get ahead of the pack, assuming more posts will attract more attention and translate to more organic growth. However, simply focusing on volume won’t give brands what they need to scale effectively on social media.

Achieving the momentum that leads to millions of followers and billions of views comes from putting quality over quantity. It’s “better,” not “more,” that gets results in the world of social media.

Avoiding the damage caused by low-quality social media content

When marketing with social media, every post matters. Good ones will move you closer to your goal, inspiring more views, followers, leads, or sales. Bad ones will move you further away from each of those goals.

In the world of content, there are dozens of stories about celebrities who found themselves scrambling after a single poorly thought-out post on social media. Some celebrities with corporate ties have even caused company stock prices to crash due to their social media posts.

While one bad post may not destroy the average business, it can still cause serious setbacks to the hard-earned progress you’ve made with your audience. Social media content that is perceived as “cringy,” inauthentic, or simply mediocre by your audience can slow growth in a way that takes months to recover from.

Businesses can avoid this by ensuring their content is high-quality, even if that means posting less frequently. Sharing three high-quality posts per week is far more effective than posting 30 mediocre ones if your goal is organic growth.

Business owners also need to understand that having low-quality content will set the algorithm against them. Social media platforms have an incentive to protect users from “low-quality” content. The more time platforms can provide “good” content to their viewers that interests them, the more time the viewer will spend on the platform, which is good for ad dollars, investor satisfaction, and other key metrics.

Essentially, if you want the algorithm to be on your side, you have to be posting high-quality content at scale.

Taking steps to deliver quality social media content consistently

Obviously, what you say is important. Viewers don’t want to waste their time watching content that is irrelevant, unappealing, or uninspired, but how you say it is just as important, if not even more important.

Business owners need to pay close attention to their tone when creating content. Tone is what makes people who have never experienced your brand before become loyal followers.

The right tone is the one that authentically expresses your voice while also carefully considering the audience you want to reach. It’s something that will be different for every business owner.

One tip for communicating in the right tone is to make content that your audience can understand, rather than content designed to make you sound smart. People trust what they can understand, and trust is what you’re shooting for. You’ll make much more progress when you can communicate big ideas in ways that millions of people will understand. If your tone makes you sound like all the other self-proclaimed experts on social media, viewers will skip right over you, and algorithms will put you at the bottom of the pile.

To shift away from “expert commentary,” brands can focus on sharing an experience with their viewers, such as “Here’s how I got $1 million to produce my first film project,” or offering them an observation like “This new AI tool is going viral because people are making a months worth of content in 30 minutes.” In both cases, you’re posting content that leaves no room for disagreement.

Statements like “This is the best strategy to become a content creator” are subjective and easy to argue with. And in case you haven’t noticed, people on social media love to argue. If they draw you into a fight, you could end up creating a situation that pushes good followers away in the comments.

Businesses that want to thrive in today’s marketplace can’t ignore social media. But they also can’t ignore the fact that viewers have incredibly high expectations. By consistently creating high-quality content, brands can leverage social media to expand their reach, increase engagement, and convert consumers into customers.

Daniel Iles is the Founder of Viral Coach, a leading short-form content agency helping businesses scale visibility, leads, and revenue through social media. With a combined following of over 2 million and an average reach of 100 million monthly views across platforms, Iles has spent the last several years reverse-engineering what makes content go viral — and turning that knowledge into a scalable system for business growth. In 2023, he launched Viral Coach as a performance-based content agency designed to help companies doing $1M to $50M in annual revenue replace bloated marketing funnels with lean, effective short-form video strategies. The company reached $1M/month in revenue in under a year.
